Frequently Asked Questions

Ozone

What is ozone?

Ozone is one of the most powerful oxidants in nature, destroying bacteria, viruses, mold and mildew in air, water and diverse applications almost instantly and more efficiently than any other oxidant. Ozone's molecular structure is three oxygen atoms (O3).

How is ozone produced?

Ozone can be produced artificially by an ozone generator according to the same principles that occur in nature; by UV light (ozone layer) or by corona discharge (lightning). In both methods the bonds between oxygen molecules are broken forming oxygen radicals (O), which connect with other oxygen molecules (O2) to create ozone (O3). DeltaWash systems use the corona discharge method due to its prolonged efficiency and superior mass transfer rates into water.

How does ozone work?

Ozone destroys pathogens and odors by an oxidation process: one of the three oxygen atoms reacts and splits from the ozone molecule to oxidize matter with inherent oxidation demand. In so doing, the ozone molecule is transformed into oxygen. Any excess ozone is stable for a short time before decomposing back into oxygen.

The most common ozone applications include air and water purification as well as applications where ozone can fully or partially replace disinfectants.

Is it effective at killing bacteria and microbes?

Yes, very effective. Studies by the EPA and CDC have shown that ozone is 3,200 times more effective than chlorine bleach as a disinfecting agent. All linens exposed to this kind of tri-atomic oxygen are free of germs and feel and smell great. Ozone has gone through extensive laboratory trials to prove 99.999%+ efficacy in killing the most tenacious biological agents including viruses, bacteria and fungal pathogens.

Is ozone a new technology?

No. It's widely used by municipal water authorities to purify drinking water and used in thousands of commercial applications for laundry throughout the world.

Why is ozone a green technology?

Ozone is a green technology with many environmental benefits. It reduces our dependence on traditionally used, harmful chemicals and eliminates their hazardous disinfectant by-products (DBPs). The only by-product created by ozone applications is oxygen which is reabsorbed into the atmosphere. A laundry using ozone will typically experience a 30-45% reduction in total water use and nearly eliminate the need for hot water.

Ozone On Demand

What laundry operational change is required?

Very little. We install our compact ozone injection system next to your washers. The system delivers ozone "on demand" automatically each time your washers call for cold water. There are practically no maintenance requirements other than washing out a small air intake filter periodically. We provide your laundry chemical vendor with new ozone wash formulas using cold water and reducing the number of required rinse cycles. Chemical quantities are adjusted to these new wash cycles by your laundry chemical vendor. Total throughput time (wash and dry) will decline by about 30% driving laundry efficiency and getting clean linens back to housekeeping.

How do your charge for the Ozone On Demand?

We offer supply agreements with pricing based on wash volume.

What is involved in equipment installation?

We come to your laundry room with an appropriately sized compact ozone injection system that we wall mount next to your washers. Our ozone injection tube is run into the cold water line feeding each wash machine. We establish new programs on your wash machines appropriate for ozone laundry and request that your chemicals provider to be there to add the ozone wash programs to each washer. The process takes about two hours and requires almost no washer down-time.

We are the first and only ozone supply company to businesses with on-premise laundry operations. We serve sectors including hospitality, health care, institutional, spas/health clubs and commercial laundry.
